Out to Sea with a Local Fisherman

For Families

Every experience at PORTCLUB is guided by an active fisherman from Iwaibukuro.
Rather than taking large groups out at once, we sail with up to 10 guests, close enough to look after everyone individually.
Even first-time young guests are looked after carefully, with guidance suited to the sea conditions of the day.

See underwater without getting wet

With a traditional box scope (hako-megane) you can look beneath the surface without getting your face wet — reassuring for small children and non-swimmers alike.

A flat, stable boat

We use a flat-decked boat with a stable footing. The fishing experience is open to children of elementary school age and above, and life jackets are provided free of charge.

Come empty-handed, stay a short while

No special preparation or change of clothes is needed; box scopes and fishing gear are included in the price. The cruise takes about one hour, so it fits easily before check-in, after checkout, or between sightseeing stops.

Our Story

Kyonan Town. A traditional Japanese house perched on a hill overlooking a small fishing port has been lovingly restored as a marine activity base where you can experience the full charm of the ocean.

Quiet moments spent beneath the massive exposed beams of a historic building, and thrilling activities in the beautiful sea stretching out before you. PORT CLUB is a place that offers both.

Exploring Ukishima.

Beyond the sea stretching out from PORT CLUB, the uninhabited island of Ukishima rises from the water, surrounded by dramatic cliffs. This small island — roughly 780 meters around and 60 meters high — is home to pristine evergreen forest and the Ukishima Shrine, dedicated to the legendary "god of cooking."

On our cruise, we circle the island and venture into sea caves carved by the waves. Peer through a box scope into the crystal-clear depths, watch sunlight stream through rocky archways — these are moments you can only find here.

What We Offer

A lounge set in a renovated kominka supported by massive beams, and an enchanting rock grotto lit by lanterns. We provide spacious rest areas, changing rooms, and showers surrounded by natural materials. After your ocean adventure, rinse off the sea breeze and enjoy a refreshing moment.

Rock Grotto

An enchanting grotto space lit by lanterns. Enjoy this one-of-a-kind atmosphere surrounded by natural rock walls.

Cruise + Box Scope Underwater Observation — Morning

A private cruise aboard a staff-operated boat through beautiful waters. Using a box scope, even children and non-swimmers can enjoy the sea without getting their face wet. No special preparation or change of clothes is needed; we recommend comfortable shoes and clothing.

Sea Fishing Experience

A sea fishing experience for beginners. Rod, reel, bait, tackle, life jacket, hand towel and ice are all included, so you can come empty-handed. An active fisherman guides you to the best spot for the day.

Before you join: Tours may be cancelled due to weather or sea conditions. We are unable to offer pick-up from the station or from accommodations, so please make your own way to PORTCLUB. The experience takes place under the open sky, so please bring a hat and drinks and take care in hot weather.
